Gariep
I have just returned from taking part in the Gariep Fly-in held just at Gariep - what an event! A great event and well worth the trip to go to. 800km from here and 200 km south of Bloem. with all the road works it was a good 10 hour roadtrip. CMC hobbies were one of the sponsors and are glad to have been a part of this event. This is the 4th year that this event has been held and it was anoher huge success. Thanks go to Boet Dennyschen, his wife, and son who organise this event each year. Gariep was chosen as it is the most central part of the country for all pilots to attend. It is held at the full size Airfield at Gariep. Gariep Dam is something else in itself - 100km long and 28km wide its is a sight to see. the dam wall is Huge and with all the recent heavy rains the water was overflowing the wall at some rate. a few pics of the event below..........

RC HELICAM
check out this amazing product from Andrew Martens - www.rchelicam.co.za - he is one of our members who is providing a niche service using his RC Heli. I know Andrew has been working on developing this for some years now, looks like the hard work is finally paying off. Well Done Andrew!!
HMFC FIELD UPGRADE
Many of you will by now have seen the new safety fence that has been erected completely seperating the pits area from all flying areas. Please note that the pits area is only for spectators and storing of planes. NO STARTING of planes or helis is allowed within this pit area. The starting area is adjacent to the toilet facilities on the outside of the pits area. All planes being started are to be placed with the engine facing the fence / pits area and not out towards the Heli Hover area.
please guys also remember the shaded pit area is for our planes. please refrain from parking cars under this area.

SAMAA proficiency ratings
Firstly - WELL DONE to Stuart who has passed his solo proficiency in September.
Well done to Jeremy Dixon who has passed his solo! and Neil Drummond - Silver. Cmon guys if Neil who has flown for longer than most of us have known about RC flying can come back and do his rating just to be SAMAA compliant - we all can!
Please all members note - the final date for EVERYONE to have their solo rating is 01 December 2010. Any members without this rating may not fly unless assisted by an instructor. We will be holding testing days on both saturday 13th and saturday 27th November. PLEASE let me know if you will be attending as i have to arrange for instructors to be available on these days.
ONLY FULLY paid up SAMAA members with a Samaa SOLO or higher rating may fly at HMFC without an instructor present.
